Libertarian National Committee (LNC) Connections
The State Parties, the Libertarian National Committee (LNC), the LNC Regions, and the national LP office interact frequently. The Ohio LP (LPO) is no exception and is highly profiled with the national party.
The LNC is much like a Board of Directors. The LNC organization includes a chair, vice-chair, treasurer, secretary, 5 at-large members, and a representative from each of the LP regions, for a total of 17 or 18 members. The 4 officers and the 5 at-large members are elected every two years, during the Libertarian National Convention.
Ohio is part of the LNC Region 3 which includes the states of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. A representative from Region 3 sits on the Libertarian National Committee (LNC). There is also an alternate as a backup to the Region 3 Representative. The states within a LNC region elect their representative to the Libertarian National Committee.

Ohio also has a seat within the LNC Platform Committee and the LNC Credentials Committee. This is due to the size of the Ohio party and the all-important sustaining membership with the national Libertarian Party. A sustaining membership is a citizen that has signed the LP Pledge and contributed at least $25 annually to the national LP. The status of sustaining member also triggers a quarterly “LP News” newspaper and determines a states status at the national convention, the LNC Platform Committee, and the LNC Credentials Committee. Ohio is the 4th largest affiliate with the national LP.
Because Ohio is one of the top 10 states with sustaining national LP members, it has a seat on the LNC Platform Committee. This committee addresses the platform (positions) for the national party and brings these items up for a vote at the national conventions, held every two years.
